February 28, 2023
WASHINGTON — The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Cemetery Administration (NCA) announced today that the Veterans Cemetery Grants Program (VCGP), which it oversees, has awarded a grant of up to $1,180,288 to the state of Virginia for the expansion of Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin.
"This cemetery was dedicated, May 6, 2011," said Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs Matthew Quinn. "NCA is proud to help this cemetery continue to honor Veterans in this historic community with dignified resting places."
Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery currently serves more than 16,000 Veterans and their eligible family members living within 75 miles of the cemetery. The grant will fund 960 columbarium niches, landscaping, and supporting infrastructure on approximately 1 acre of land.
Since its inception in 1978, the VCGP has provided more than $990 million to establish, expand, improve, and maintain 122 state, territorial and tribal Veterans cemeteries. In fiscal year 2022, these cemeteries conducted more than 45,000 interments.
